Cartier Watches

Cartier’s history started in 1847, by Louis-Francois Cartier when he took over his boss’s workshop. By 1853, they opened to private clientele, and 1859 opened a larger shop on the streets of Paris. Innovations in creativity started from World War I on, when they first patterned designs on abstract onyx and diamond motifs, fashioned after panther skin and spots.

Through German occupation, the caged bird jewelry by Cartier came to represent the national symbol. In the 1970’s the “Cartier-It’s a Must” expression starts and becomes the meaning of the revolution in luxury products that Cartier stands for today.

Nothing says “class and elegance” like Cartier watches. The renowned French jeweler and watchmaker is known for the diamond studded accessories and luxurious, overstated collections of the finest watches and jewelry in the world.

Cartier watches have distinctly French sounding names like, Collection Privee, D’Art, Libre, Lanieres, Baignoire, Ballerina, Tortue, Tonneau, Ronde Louis Cartier, and Ballon Bleu de Cartier, just to name a few. They offer mechanical movements with automatic or manual winding, jewelry style watches and quartz crystal movements. They come in platinum, white, yellow and pink gold, titanium and steel in models that range from mini to extra large.

Their unique designs and extremely formal display of wealth make them distinctively easy to recognize. They look more like pieces of art and none of the faces look like a traditional watch. Cartier prefers to call them creations instead of watches, anyway.

Cartier makes other products like novelties, leather goods, accessories, fragrance and bridal gifts, but none of them have the “highest class jewelry and watch elegance that money can buy” reputation that Cartier watches enjoy.

Some of the world’s wealthiest people own Cartier watches, and they are a favorite of the fashion set in Paris, of course. The French company has a global market, and for many people a Cartier watch is the meaning of making it to the top. The finest materials, including gold, diamonds and quartz movements go into every Cartier watch, or creation.

The custom designs of the Cartier watches are unlike any you will find in the world. There is no other company that puts such fine craftsmanship and high priced materials into a wristwatch, which is what makes them luxuriously more of a piece of jewelry than a timepiece. Of course, that is not to say that they are not high quality timepieces, as well.

Many of the world’s wealthiest people belong to the Cartier Club, which give personalized offers and privileged information to its membership. As part of this exclusive club, you can create a wish list from the hundreds of original designs that their team of creative designers comes up with on a daily basis. When it comes to jewelry design, there is nobody that can compete with Cartier, and most people have heard of them at some point in their life.

Cartier watches are the finest watches you will ever find for special occasions and formal wear. Not meant to be an everyday or sports watch, these exclusive collections are for the most refined people. Their characteristics of patrimony, art, excellence and commitment are what make Cartier one of the most famous jewelers and watchmakers in the world. If you look at Cartier watches, you will see why!

Philippe Patek Wrist Watches

Way back in 1839 a watchmaker of Polish descent named Antoni Norbert Patek began making pocket watches in Geneva with a fellow Polish watchmaker he continued until he joined up with Adrien Phillipe and began what became the Philippe Patek company in 1851.

It was in the year 1868 when they produced the first wristwatch. The company pioneered many watch mainstays that are still in use today. These include things like the keyless winding mechanism, the minute repeater, the perpetual calendar, the chronograph and the split second hand to name a few.

Watches made by the Philippe Patek Company routinely bring high prices at auction partially drivne by collectors who are searching for quality pieces and partially by the Patek company as they buy pieces to help complete the museum that has been established to fill the Patek mueseum in Geneva.

The company is still alive and well today and is making some of the best pieces available on the market. A custom made pocket watch which has a full twenty four fucntions made by the Patek Company in 1933 closed in auction in 1999 for eleven million dollars.

Watches made by them are sought after by the rich and famous and cen be seen adorning the attire of royalty around the world as a show of status. The timepieces have been bought by everyone from monarchs to the pope for personl use and gifts and as far back as 1851 watches made by them have been supplied to Queen Victoria and her consort.

In the year 1989, for it’s anniversary, the company again made history with a watch callede the Calibre 89 that had a full 33 functions which ranged from the date of Easter, the time of Sunrise, a thermometer, equation of time and can even add a day in for leap year while leaving out the extra day as needed. Oh yes, and it also keeps time!

Back in 1932 the company was purchased by brothers Charles and Jean Stern and it has remained in that family since that time and continues on today with a tradition of excellence in watch making. The current president is a fourth generation of the Stern family where it will be passed to a fifth generation as the time comes.

The company has used the Spanish Knights Calatrava cross as it’s symbol since the end of the nineteenth century which was adopted by the company as its brand symbol which is still used today.

Today the company has a presence, as does the rest of the world, on line where you can trace the history and review the watches that are made by this fine Swiss company. You can view the current line and view information about the museum and find any information that you might want or need to know about the companies past, present or future. Over the course of time when time matters people have depended on Tag Heuer watches. People in history like General Dwight David Eisenhower back in 1945 during World War two or in 1962 when a Tag Heuer was the first Swiss watch to make the journey into space.

In 1911 they made the first Chronograph to be dash mounted in planes and automobiles, in 1916 they manufactured the first stop watch capable of accuracy down to 1 100th of a second to be used in timing race events. They have been the official time keeping piece in more Olympic games than you can imagine beginning as far back as 1924 in Paris. They designed a pilot’s chronograph watch in 1930.

Swiss Watch Making History

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:10 pm

Everyone is aware that Swiss made watches have been around for what seems forever. Now while forever is a stretch, it is accurate to say they have been made for a long time. Actually since the mid sixteenth century to be exact. The history of Swiss and the art of watch making in that part of the world would take up more time and room than we can use here, but we will hit the highlights for you.

It dates back to a law reform in 1541 banned the wearing of jewels so jewelers and goldsmiths began the art of watch making. Before the century drew to a close, the Geneva watch was hallowed as the finest available and in the year 1601 the first Watchmakers guild was formed.

Geneva became the watch capitol of the world and less than a century later was so engulfed and inundated with watchmakers that Geneva alone was exporting more than sixty thousand watches per calendar year.

Around the year 1770 the Swiss invented the first perpetual watch, which is the forerunner of the modern self-winding watch, which is popular today in most fine watches on the market.

As the industry went into the mid eighteen hundreds new developments began to show up, there were things like pendant winding watches soon followed by chronographs, fly back hands and perpetual calendars.

As the industry moved into the twentieth century mass production became more commonplace and the technology allowed for standardization and the ability of the components to be interchanged with other parts, which led the Swiss watch industry to being the world leader in fine timepieces.

As the planet wound down from the close of World War One Swiss wristwatches began to become the thing to have and there was a tremendous surge in sales.

The first electrical battery operated watch was introduced somewhere around 1952 and the rounded traditional shape on wristwatches was adopted as the standard around 1960 and then in 1967 the first Quartz wristwatch made an appearance.

Since that time we have seen the introduction of the LED and the LCD and then a Quartz version that did not rely on battery power.

Throughout the history of timepieces, the Swiss have always been at the forefront and considered the leaders in the industry. They have been the ones looked to for guidance and the country that was always the first to come up with the solutions to the problems facing the industry and moving it ever forward.

Today the watch and clock industry is the third largest export product in Switzerland and the Swiss made time pieces are more popular than ever the world over. They can be found in every corner of the globe and on wrists from peasants to kings. It is a continuation of a tradition that has survived for centuries and has never waned in its desire to provide the people of the world with the best time piece it could make and the love affair between the people of the world and the Swiss does not show any sign of slowing down in the foreseeable future.
